Fairleigh Gilmour is a Lecturer in Gender Studies and Criminology at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Her research examines sex work governance; crime and the media; and the intersections of crime, addiction and mental health for women. This article is based on the research undertaken in her doctoral thesis, submitted in 2016, titled Sex Work Careers.
