Julia Brannen
Julia Brannen is Professor of Sociology of the Family, Thomas Coram
Research Unit, Institute of Education, University of London. She has researched and
written about the family lives of parents, children and young people in both Britain
and Europe and has a particular interest in the relation between paid work and family
life. Recent co-authored co-edited books include; Connecting Children: Care and
Family Life in Later Childhood (Falmer 2000) and Young Europeans, Work and
Family: Futures in transition (2002 Routledge); Re-thinking Children's Care (Open
University Press 2003). She is a co-founder and co-editor of the International Journal
of Social Research Methodology.

Stephen Conway
Stephen Conway was until recently a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at
the University of Lincoln. He has recently moved to a senior research post at the
University of Teeside.
Tim Dant and David Bowles
Tim Dant is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of East Anglia
who recently has written on material culture and aspects of automobility in modernity.
He published Material Culture in the Social World in 1999 (Open University Press)
and his Culture, Society and Critique is forthcoming (Sage).
David Bowles is currently researching a PhD thesis on volunteers and social capital at
the University of East Anglia.
William Housley and Richard Fitzgerald
William Housley is Lecturer in Sociology at Cardiff University,
School of Social Sciences. He is author of numerous articles and
books including 'Interaction in Multidisciplinary Teams' (Aldershot,
Ashgate, 2003) and 'Interactionism' with Paul Atkinson (London, Sage,
2003).
Richard Fitzgerald is Lecturer in Communication, Department of
Communication, University of Queensland, Australia. He has published
numerous articles on media, discourse and interaction. He is
currently involved with a number of projects including research into
the temporal organisation of news stories and political
communication.
Gabriella Lazaridis and Maria Koumandraki
G. Lazaridis is a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology,
University of Leicester.
M. Koumandraki is a research fellow in the Department of Sociology, University of
Leicester.
