Jenny Hockey

Professor Jenny Hockey* trained as an anthropologist and is now Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research interests include gender, identity, embodiment, material culture, memory, ageing, health, and death and dying. Recent publications include: The Matter of Death, Palgrave (2010), co-authored with C.Komaromy and K.Woodthorpe and Masculinities in Transition, Palgrave (2011), co-authored with V.Robinson. Rachel Dilley

Dr Rachel Dilley is a Research Associate in Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield, UK. She currently works on a 3 year ESRC-funded project, 'If the Shoe Fits: Footwear, Identity and Transition'. Her research interests centre on the sociology of the body, gender, identity, extreme sports, the environment and visual methods.

Victoria Robinson

Dr Victoria Robinson is Reader in Sociology, at the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research interests are in gender and sexualities, men and masculinities and extreme sport. She is the author of Everyday Masculinities: Male Identity and Rock Climbing (2008, Berg), Mundane Heterosexualities: From Theory to Practices (With J. Hockey and A. Meah, 2007, Palgrave), Masculinities in Transition (with J. Hockey, 2011, Palgrave) and Rock Climbing: The Ultimate Guide (2013, Greenwood).She is co editor, with D. Richardson, of the 3rd edition of Introducing Gender and Women's Studies (2008, Palgrave) and also co-editor, with D. Richardson, of Palgrave's international book series on Genders and Sexualities in the Social Sciences.

Alexandra Sherlock

Alexandra Sherlock is the postgraduate researcher for the ESRC-funded project 'If the Shoe Fits: Footwear, Identification and Transition'. A recent graduate of the Material and Visual Culture MA programme at University College London, she takes an anthropological approach to shoes, focusing particularly on the influence of popular representations. Alexandra is currently conducting field research at the head office of Clarks Shoe Company in Somerset. Her forthcoming article, "Larger than Life: Digital Resurrection and the Re-enchantment of Society" appears in a special issue of the journal The Information Society, entitled, The Death, Afterlife and Immortality of Bodies and Data.
