Sue Maguire, Thomas Spielhofer and Sarah Golden

Sue Maguire

Sue Maguire is a Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Education and Industry, University of Warwick. She is actively engaged in post-16 research, policy development and evaluation in the fields of education, training and employment and has published widely. Her recent work included evaluating the Activity and Learning Agreement Pilots (DfE), which were targeted at the NEET and JWT groups. She was also project leader for the evaluation of the piloting of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). Before moving into research, Sue was a Careers Adviser in schools, further and higher education.

Thomas Spielhofer

Thomas Spielhofer, Senior Research Officer, has worked in the Research, Evaluation and Information Department (REID) at NFER for ten years and has extensive experience leading research studies relating to youth transitions. His particular expertise relates to the current policy of raising the participation age to 18 in 2015 and examining the characteristics and views of young people not engaged in education or training. He recently completed a LGA project examining good practice in the use of non-formal learning to re-engage young people who are NEET and led the project examining the impact of Determined to Succeed in Scotland on young people at risk of becoming NEET.

Sarah Golden

Sarah Golden is a Principal Research Officer in the Research, Evaluation and Information Department (REID) at NFER where she has worked for 14 years. Sarah was the project director for research which explored young people's barriers to participation in education and training, including young people in the NEET and JWT groups (DfE). She has also conducted studies which have explored the experiences of young people at risk of exclusion and strategies to engage them, including evaluations of the Learning Gateway and Neighbourhood Support Fund.
