Val Gillies is a research professor in social and policy studies at London South Bank University. She specializes in research on family, social class, marginalised children and young people. She also has interests in qualitative research methods. She is currently undertaking an ESRC-funded project Challenging Ideas about Disaffection: Maximising Policy and Practice Impact. Her publications include Marginalised Mothers. Exploring Working Class Parenting (2007) London: Routledge, and Making Families: Moral Tales of Parenting and Step-parenting (2003) Sociologypress.
