Sylvia Walby

Sylvia Walby is UNESCO Chair in Gender Research and Professor of Sociology at Lancaster University, UK. She is an Academician of the UK Academy of Social Sciences, a Fellow of the RSA, and has an OBE for services to equal opportunities and diversity. She played a leading role in establishing the UK Women's Studies Network and centres/institutes for women's/gender studies in UK Universities. She was founding President of the European Sociological Association. Books include: The Future of Feminism (Polity July 2011), Globalization and Inequalities: Complexity and Contested Modernities (Sage 2009), Gender Transformations (Routledge 1997) and Theorizing Patriarchy (Blackwell 1990).
