Rachel Brooks is Reader in Social Policy at the University of Surrey, co-convenor of the British Sociological Association’s Youth Study Group and co-editor of the International Journal of Lifelong Education. Her research focuses on young people’s experiences of education and training, and on the political participation of the young. She has recently edited (with Paul Hodkinson) a special issue of the Journal of Youth Studies on ‘Young People, New Technologies and Political Engagement’ (published in September 2008) and (with John Holford) a special issue of Citizenship Studies on ‘Citizenship, Learning and Education’ (to be published in April 2009).
