Chris Phillipson, Rebecca Leach, Annemarie Money and Simon Biggs

Chris Phillipson

Chris Phillipson has held the post of Professor of Applied Social Studies and Social Gerontology, at the University of Keele since 1988. He is Pro-Vice Chancellor (Learning & Academic Development) (2003-2006). Previously, he was Dean of Research (Faculty of Social Sciences). Current research interests include globalisation and ageing, social exclusion and older people, and transitions from work to retirement. His most recent books include: Ageing, Globalisation and Inequality (co-edited, Baywood, 2006) and the Futures of Old Age (co-edited, Sage, 2006). He is President of the British Society of Gerontology and a member of the Training and Development Board of the Economic and Social Research Council.

Rebecca Leach

Rebecca Leach is a sociologist with interests in: consumption and taste; cohort/generational consumption patterns; home and notions of locality and domesticity; objects and material culture. She was Principal Investigator for the Baby Boomers project and has previously completed research on the sociology of collectable art objects, the meaning of home and belonging and new housing estates.

Annemarie Money

Annemarie Money was Research Fellow on the Boomers project and now is a Research Associate at the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, University of Manchester. Her research interests include qualitative research methods; and the area of consumerism, with a particular focus on tastes and object relationships.

Simon Biggs

Simon Biggs is Director of the Institute of Gerontology at Kings’ College, London. His interests centre on the relationship between identity and adult ageing. This has included a broad range of themes including (i) the analysis of international and national social policy, (ii) work on the adult lifecourse and the personal experience of ageing, (iii) research on lifestyle and self-development in later life such as retirement communities, the uses of counselling and psychotherapy, and the study of the ‘baby boomer’ generation.
