Jo Moran-Ellis and Susan Venn

Jo Moran-Ellis

JO MORAN-ELLIS joined the Department in 1992 and prior to that held posts as a University Research Fellow, and Senior Researcher in a Social Services Department. Her research interests are primarily in the areas of childhood studies, and research methods, especially mixed and multiple methods. Her recent projects include a reflexive methodological study looking at integrating methods, public attitudes towards research governance, and studies of children's mental health services. Jo is currently developing work on the sociology of children and sleep as a site of social competence and intergenerational relations. Jo is currently Head of the Department of Sociology.

Susan Venn

Susan Venn joined the Centre for Research on Ageing and Gender (CRAG) in the Department of Sociology, University of Surrey, in September 2000 as a research administrator working on two substantive projects. She then went on to become a researcher on the ESRC funded project 'Negotiating Sleep: Gender, age and social relationships among couples' and completed her MSc in Social Research in 2004. She is currently Research Officer on a four year, multi-disciplinary, ESRC funded project 'Optimising Quality of Sleep Among Older People in the Community and Care Homes: An integrated approach (SomnIA)', with Sara Arber and Robert Meadows. Susan is undertaking her PhD and is a graduate tutor in Social Theory.
